Curcumin is like a magical pharma drug without side effects.

In India, turmeric is considered very sacred.  Turmeric plays a very important role in every Indian’s day to day life.  It is used for everything from cooking to treating ailments and even for devotional purposes.  Turmeric is also considered a symbol of prosperity in certain parts of India.
Turmeric is considered as a very special root with medicinal qualities not just by ancient Indians, who used it in Ayurveda, but also in the west during Biblical times and by the traditional Chinese physicians.

If we look across India, we will find various special uses of turmeric, which is passed on from generations to generations.  Indians, use turmeric medically to cure cold, cough, to treat indigestions, fever, dysentery and some liver problems.  As it has anti-fungal qualities, turmeric paste is used to cover injuries and cuts.  In South India, females traditionally apply turmeric on their face and on their

legs, to reduce the growth of unwanted body hair.

Turmeric contains the flavonoid called Curcumin.  This curcumin gives turmeric its MAGICAL ABILITIES and its yellow colour. Curcumin is the main reason why turmeric is called the ‘Spice of Life’.

Ideally all good quality turmeric should contain more than 2% curcumin.  But as we are all aware, the turmeric powder available on supermarket shelves are so heavily processed and are loaded with additives, that we will hardly find any traces of Curcumin in it.

Inflammation is the cause of many ailments and curcumin, a bioactive substance helps fight inflammation at the molecular level.

Curcumin has anti-inflammatory, anti-tumour, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-oxidant effects.  Some researchers even say that Curcumin may even play a role in cancer treatment.

The only problem with Curcumin is that our body cannot utilise it fully, because of its poor bioavailability or absorption capabilities.  Most of the curcumin gets ingested and metabolised before being absorbed.

But when we mix curcumin rich, turmeric powder with good quality black pepper, that is when the body absorption of curcumin goes up by 2000%.  The piperine in black pepper helps the Curcumin to be absorbed easily by the body.
